Fastbrake Valve Trailer Air Connection

Description of Defect/Non-compliance

Trailer air connection fastbrake (QR) valve installed backward. Non-compliance with FMVSS 121 trailer brake application and release timing.

Safety Risk

Under certain conditions the trailer brakes may not achieve full brake pressure, the result of which may cause the trailer to become unstable during braking, leading to an accident.

Cause

The design of the trailer air connection shows the installation of the fastbreak valve facing the wrong way; the valve direction being opposite of the normal air flow to the trailer. Consequently, it was installed backwards

Description of Remedy

Completed. Inspected and reinstalled valve as necessary – all subject vehicles have been corrected as of 7/1/2026.
