This ultra-efficient technology is factory installed and features the industry’s smallest footprint among similar no-idle systems. The battery-based SmartAir uses 70% less fuel than diesel-based auxiliary power units and charges in 25% less time than similar no-idle battery packs.
Powered by four heavy-duty AGM batteries, SmartAir can provide high-power capacity to keep the sleeper cool for up to 10 hours. It’s available for sleeper-equipped configurations of the Model 579 and Model 567. The efficient design maximizes valuable under-bunk storage space, and the digital LCD control display is easily reached from the bunk. The control display allows easy temperature adjustment in A/C and heating modes and shows available battery life.
SmartAir is fully integrated with Peterbilt’s existing sleeper HVAC systems for optimal performance, reliability and cost efficiency. It utilizes existing ducting for outstanding quality and fit and finish. Additionally, SmartAir requires no scheduled maintenance and features on-board diagnostics.
SmartAir components include a remote condenser and brushless fan assembly installed on the lower exterior wall of the sleeper and a battery box that can be mounted in different places to meet spec requirements. SmartAir is also available in a space-saver battery box configuration for even greater versatility in chassis configurations. Combined with the superior sleeper insulation of the Models 579 and 567, SmartAir’s performance can’t be beat.
