The Ride and Drive will feature a Peterbilt Model 337 Hybrid Electric with Altec utility “bucket” body. This Peterbilt Hybrid is equipped with the PACCAR PX-6 engine coupled with the Fuller EH8E306A-UP 6-speed hybrid transmission for improved fuel efficiency and added driving power.
The Model 337, configured for a utility application, benefits with cost savings from both on-road driving and during stationary operation on the jobsite with the electric operation of the PTO using the on-board batteries. Crane performance testing has shown that the system can operate for an average of up to 28 minutes on battery power. To re-charge the system, the truck automatically starts, recharges the lithium ion batteries in 4 ½ minutes, then automatically shuts down. Depending on duty cycle, this can result in an 80% reduction in idling. This low-noise, low emission vehicle will be popular when operating within congested neighborhoods.
