Peterbilt’s APEX pairs two already fuel-efficient components – the PACCAR MX-13 engine and the Fuller Advantage Automated Transmission – and optimizes communication between them with proprietary control software. The result is up to a 4% improvement in fuel efficiency compared to previous powertrains. Additionally, it reduces weight by 80 pounds (versus previous combinations) and features more precise shifting, including a small-step ratio in the ninth and tenth gears for a more fuel-efficient operating range while downshifting.
APEX is available for Models 579 and 567. It is the standard powertrain with the Model 579 EPIQ, as part of a fuel-efficiency package, that can improve fuel efficiency by up to 14%. In addition to APEX’s bottom-line advantages for saving fuel and weight, the precision calibration means error-free shifting that can help a fleet’s novice drivers operate with the efficiency and productivity of more experienced drivers.
Peterbilt’s APEX is a fully integrated powertrain. The optimized communication between engine and transmission means the two components share critical data, including torque, operating gear and other vehicle performance data. APEX is also a versatile powertrain with the PACCAR MX-13 engine available with 380 to 500 horsepower and up to 1,850 lb.-ft. of torque.
