Peterbilt Motors Company announces high customer acceptance of the Peterbilt SmartNav™, a PACCAR proprietary navigation and business technology system for Peterbilt Class 5-8 commercial vehicles. SmartNav is offered across the full Peterbilt line-up -- standard on all Platinum and Premium interior offerings and Peterbilt’s family of hybrid vehicles. It is also optional on Prestige, ProBilt, Mid-Level and Medium Duty interiors.
“Over 20 percent of Peterbilt vehicles on order have been specified with the SmartNav system as customers are demanding telematics integration within the trucking industry,” said Bill Jackson, PACCAR vice president and Peterbilt general manager. “As the innovative leader in the commercial vehicles, diagnostics monitoring and back office functionality, Peterbilt’s goal is to provide customers options to improve operator and vehicle performance to meet their business objectives.”
Designed for the trucking industry, the SmartNav system contains a navigation application that provides truck specific routing maps that factor in trucking parameters, including bridge heights and weight restrictions, which is beneficial across all market applications. The in-dash, technology system utilizes a high-resolution, 7-inch touch panel display for drivers to easily and safely use while traveling. SmartNav also includes hands-free phoning with Bluetooth, back-up camera options, vehicle diagnostics data, and audio controls, including satellite radio, AM/FM, CD, MP3 and USB. SmartNav was developed on the award-winning Microsoft Windows Embedded Automotive 7 software platform, and Sprint provides an optional integrated cellular network connectivity service plan for the system. When a truck is not in motion, the driver will be able to access the Internet and send and receive e-emails to enhance communications with dispatchers, logistics providers and shippers.
