Peterbilt Motors Company announces the expansion of powertrain options including all wheel drive (AWD) capabilities with the PACCAR PX-8 engine, providing customers additional power and torque for enhanced off-road versatility and maneuverability in challenging environments.
“The PACCAR PX-8 engine partnered with all wheel drive provides customers maximum power and performance for utility, municipality and vocational applications,” said Bill Jackson, PACCAR vice president and Peterbilt general manager. “The combination also provides enhanced fuel economy, durability and overall low cost of operation.”
Optimized for Peterbilt’s Class 7 chassis, the PACCAR PX-8 engine is a robust performer with a horsepower rating of up to 350 hp and up to 1,000 lb.-ft. of torque providing increased throttle response and acceleration. This premium 8.3 liter, six-cylinder engine offers two engine braking systems. A variable geometry turbo provides standard engine braking up to 125 hp, and an optional compression brake provides incremental braking horsepower.
The PX-8 engine with all wheel drive capabilities is available in Peterbilt Models 337 and 348. The Model 337 is available in both truck and tractor configurations with a GVW of 26,000 – 35,000 lbs. The Model 337 can be spec’d to meet the needs of any application and delivers a strong combination of quality, comfort and productivity. The Model 348 represents a multi-dimensional performer with a GVW between 35,000 -66,000 lbs. and optional capacity ratings to suit almost any specialty vocation. It is available with 12,000 – 16,000 lbs front axle ratings, is available in both truck and tractor configurations and can be spec’d to meet virtually any application.
Both the 337 and 348 all wheel drive models are also available with the PACCAR PX-6 and either Fuller manual or Allison automatic transmissions.
