It’s obvious that Peterbilt engineering has listened to its customers and integrated the fuel efficiency, safety and reliability features necessary to help us improve our business.”
The new Model 587 has earned the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay® certification and has been recognized as fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly. The SmartWay program has established a comprehensive set of fuel-saving, low-emission equipment specifications for new Class 8 long-haul tractors and trailers. The Model 587 offers customers fuel savings, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and significantly reduces NOx, particulate matter and other air pollutants.
“The sleek new Model 587 is Peterbilt’s most aerodynamic design and is the ideal product for companies like U.S. Xpress, which are dedicated to reducing fuel consumption and their carbon footprint,” said Landon Sproull, Peterbilt chief engineer. “Improved maneuverability, visibility and serviceability features make the Model 587 an optimal performer.”
Available with two sleeper options or in a day cab configuration, the Model 587 is ideal for long-haul fleets, driving teams, owner-operators or short-haul fleets who seek quality, performance, value and style. A new and more dramatic hood slope provides two feet in additional forward line of sight and contributes to the Model 587s aerodynamic contours which decrease drag that generates measurable fuel efficiency gains. A new advanced hybrid headlamp design utilizes a combination of projector module lamps for low beam use and complex reflector technology for high beam, providing exceptional nighttime driving visibility. The dash features gauges and switches positioned within easy reach of the driver to provide an ergonomic work environment.
