Today, Peterbilt announced the availability of the new, groundbreaking PACCAR in-dash system, SmartNav, at its press conference at the Mid-America Trucking Show.
SmartNav provides drivers a new realm of safety, vehicle awareness and control with the state-of-the-art system that offers navigation, vehicle diagnostics, communication and entertainment technologies in a touch-screen-operated unit customized for the trucking industry.
“SmartNav was developed to increase driver safety and vehicle performance, as well as lower costs by decreasing driving routes errors and missed vehicle maintenance,” said Bill Jackson, Peterbilt General Manager and Peterbilt Vice President. “SmartNav also features infotainment previously never seen in the trucking industry, allowing drivers to experience the ultimate in connectivity and entertainment – all in their cab.”
SmartNav offers features and functionality for drivers in a package that is reliable, extremely durable, and optimized for the commercial vehicle industry. The system features a high-resolution, scratch-resistant touch screen interface, and is built upon the award-winning Microsoft Windows Embedded Automotive software platform. The system is highly flexible and features 8 gigabytes of memory, an ARM11 processor, a fully integrated satellite tuner, and an embedded microphone for voice recognition. Accessing the system is simple through hard keys that, along with a touch screen and voice recognition, provide the operator three means of operation.
Features and functionality include:
-
Telematics – A system utilizes the Opera Internet browsing experience for users with an optional modem. It also provides an easy means of connecting through the internet with Peterbilt TruckCare, PACCAR Parts or PACCAR Financial.
-
Audio – The unit features AM/FM/Weather bands; radio data streaming; Sirius capable; a CD player; a USB port for memory devices containing MP3 or audio files; iPod® capability; Auxiliary MP3 player; and Bluetooth A2DP audio streaming from enabled Bluetooth devices.
-

Accessories – A calculator and alarm clock are available, as well as a video feature, that allows the use of an auxiliary video input device, such as an iPod.
SmartNav will be standard on all Peterbilt Premium level interiors, and as an available option on other interiors beginning in September 2010.
